Task Force on Strategic Energy Research and Development


The report on the Department of Energy energy research and development (R&D) programs was the work of the Task Force on Strategic Energy R&D convened by the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board at the request of the Secretary, the Honorable Hazel R. O'Leary.

The Task Force, headed by Daniel Yergin, president of Cambridge Energy Research Associates and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power, presented its final report at an open meeting of the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board on June 13, 1995. The Report -- in a post-Cold War, deficit-cutting era -- assesses the rationale for Federal Government support of energy R&D, reviews the priorities and management of the overall program, and recommends how it can be made more efficient and effective, delivering more value to American taxpayers.
